Experience School in the 1850s at the Bald Hill Historic Schoolhouse, Dunce Caps & All

After over 80 years of being closed, the Bald Hills Historic Schoolhouse is being opened to the public for tours and an opportunity to experience what it was like to go to school in the 1850s.  The re-enactment will take place at a Community Event on Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 12PM-5PM at Farmingville Hills County Park, 501 Horseblock Road, Farmingville, NY 11738.

The day opens with the local VFW Post 400 raising the 1850s American Flag and opening remarks by Tom Muratore, Suffolk County Legislator.  All day family-fun activities include Historic Schoolhouse tours, guided hikes, nature projects, letterboxing adventures, storytelling with Sachem Public Library, face painting, toddler crafts, and more.

Special activities include Portuguese American Center folk dancing, family yoga, Farmingville Residents Association beach ball challenge for kids, cheerleading and lacrosse demonstrations with Sachem Sports Club and Sachem East High School, music and dance with Helping Hands Outreach Ministries and well-known tunes performed by Something – Long Island’s Only 4 Piece Acoustic Beatles Tribute Band.

It’s supposed to be beautiful on Sunday so stop down with the family and enjoy the festivities!
