November 26th’s Acoustic Cafe at Whole Foods Market, Lake Grove, features international rockers, The Scutches! Fresh off of their European tour, The Scutches’ lead singer and guitarist Vinny Hoffer hails from Farmingville. The band conquers a wide-range of genres, from pop punk to surfer jams, to straight up rock n’ roll. Check them out online: http://www.myspace.com/scutches. The band will play from 7-9PM. Hang in the cafe and enjoy some whole foods!

Thank you to EVERYONE who participated and attended our very first Community Day at Farmingville Hills Park & the Historic Schoolhouse. And yes, we finally saw the inside of the little white Schoolhouse! What a great day for learning, outdoor activities and old-fashioned family fun! Hope you can join us for future events! Experience School in the 1850s at the Bald Hill Historic Schoolhouse, Dunce Caps & All
After over 80 years of being closed, the Bald Hills Historic Schoolhouse is being opened to the public for tours and an opportunity to experience what it was like to go to school in the 1850s. The re-enactment will take place at a Community Event on Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 12PM-5PM at Farmingville Hills County Park, 501 Horseblock Road, Farmingville, NY 11738.
The day opens with the local VFW Post 400 raising the 1850s American Flag and opening remarks by Tom Muratore, Suffolk County Legislator. All day family-fun activities include Historic Schoolhouse tours, guided hikes, nature projects, letterboxing adventures, storytelling with Sachem Public Library, face painting, toddler crafts, and more.
Special activities include Portuguese American Center folk dancing, family yoga, Farmingville Residents Association beach ball challenge for kids, cheerleading and lacrosse demonstrations with Sachem Sports Club and Sachem East High School, music and dance with Helping Hands Outreach Ministries and well-known tunes performed by Something – Long Island’s Only 4 Piece Acoustic Beatles Tribute Band.
It’s supposed to be beautiful on Sunday so stop down with the family and enjoy the festivities!

A special thanks to Sachem Public Library’s Amy Johnston and Marybeth Kozikowski for their support at our last Family Fun Series Event on August 17th. Amy and Marybeth entertained the kids with storytelling using props, song, rhymes, and puppets! The kids has a terrific time. All 3 of my kids (ages 3-9 years) loved it! Get ready for COMMUNITY DAY – this SUNDAY, AUGUST 22nd, 12-5PM. Weather looks like it should hold out. Bring your family for a fun, entertaining, nature-oriented, educational day! I know there are a lot of people out there who have wondered about that little historic white Schoolhouse – well now you get to see what’s inside AND learn about its history! Our kids had a blast with Susan Blacklocke as she demonstrated different poi dances. The children then were able to choose their poi art balls and learn to dance on their own. In the end, the kids performed a poi arts show. What a fun and new experience for both adults and children! Thank you Susan and all who participated! Get ready for our last Family Fun Series on Tuesday, August 17th at 6:30Pm with Sachem Public Library and Community Day on August 22nd!

We spent a few hours this morning cleaning the inside and outside of the Historic Schoolhouse, getting ready for Community Day! On Community Day, in addition to several other fun, active, musical, nature-oriented, & kid-friendly activities, you and your family will be able to enter the 1850′s Schoolhouse and learn a bit about its history. Spread the word about Community Day!
