Farmingville Rocks!

Our summer family fun events for kids is back at Farmingville Hills County Park on Tuesdays at 6:30PM.  Join us for Family Zumba with Bobbi Ann on July 12 & 26, Family Yoga with Mary Beth Dark on July 19th, and Karate & Drumming with Ryu Shu Kan Japanese Arts Center on August 2nd!  Afterwards, all kids who attend get a free italian ice at Ralph’s Ice in Farmingville!

Community Day is on Saturday, August 13th (raindate Aug 14th) from 4-8PM  and will be a bit different this year.  We have 3 bands that will be playing throughout the evening, local crafts, food, italian ices, and the 1850 Historic Schoolhouse will be opened for you to experience what it was like to go to school at that time.  Join us for a family evening at Farmingville Hills Park!

We are also introducing a NEW FARMER’S MARKET on Saturdays – July 16, 23, 30, August 6, 13 – from 8AM-11AM in the KK Athletics Parking lot!  Check it out!  Briermere Pies will be available and acoustic music!

And finally, the Anti-Graffiti Task Force is creating a community mural on the west wall of KK Athletics.  We are looking for artists and volunteers to help every Saturday morning beginning July 9th.  Click here for more details!

Nick Vavas, a Sachem graduate, local resident, and substitute teacher at Sachem, was diagnosed with a very aggressive brain cancer.  After brain surgery, Nick is undergoing ongoing treatments to fight the cancer.  Nick is under many financial stresses, being unable to work for several months and having to continue treatments.  You can help Nick by purchasing a Father’s Day Gift from the website below.  All proceeds will help Nick with his recovery!  Thank You!

“Spring is sprung…the grass is riz…I wonder where the flower is?”  We’ll have them on Saturday, June 4 for a community Plant-In, in cooperation with Brookhaven Town.

Please join us on Saturday, June 4th from 11:00am-3:00pm as we help to beautify our Farmingville downtown.  We’ll meet at the FRA office, across from Triangle Park (where the town clock resides).

Conquer the Farmingville Hills this Saturday, March 19th at 8AM.  Pre-register online by Friday or come down to Lynwood Elementary School on Saturday (registration opens at 6:45AM) and join our First Annual Conquer the Hills 5K Run/Walk for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The Farmingville Hills Chamber of Commerce meets Wednesday, March 2 at 6:30PM at the Flaming Hearth in Farmingville. All are welcome.  Become part of and network with a team that will help enhance local business and community.  We have several initiatives and events in progress for the next few months including the Conquer the Hills 5K Run/Walk, Farmingville Farmer’s Markets, outside Art Mural Project and Summer Family Fun Series in the Park!  The Chamber will meet the first Wednesday of every month going forward.  Visit www.farmingvillechamber.com for more information.

Guess What’s Going On in Farmingville?

#1:  We’re launching a local Farmer’s Market right here in Farmingville!!  Every Saturday from 7AM-12Noon, beginning June 4th – October 29, 2011, there will be a Farmingville Farmer’s Market, located in the KK Athletics Parking Lot (location to be confirmed shortly).  At the launch on June 4th, we will have local music by Vinny Hoffer, Scutches,  and Poi Arts by Susan Blacklocke.

#2:  Are you a local business owner, non-profit, association or resident?  Then you should consider joining the new Farmingville Hills Chamber of Commerce. The first meeting is on March 2, 2011 at 6:30PM at the Flaming Hearth.  Click here for more information.

#3:  Are you ready to conquer the hills of Farmingville?  Come walk or run with us at the Conquer the Hills 5K on Saturday, March 19 at 8AM to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This is a first-time event for our community – let’s make it a great success!  We are looking for runners, walkers, volunteers, and sponsors. #4:  The Town of Brookhaven has adopted an Anti-Graffiti Campaign and our own Farmingville residents have taken the lead on this charge.  We are launching an art mural campaign and are looking to create a mural within the downtown area.  We want to engage the skills of our local young artists.  So let us know if you want to be involved!  More information to follow shortly!

$5:  Our 2011 Summer Fun Series for Kids is in the works…more zumba and fun for kids is coming in July and August!
